Updating your Goals

I am a firm believer in setting up of goals for every stage in life. Religion is one of the greatest problems plaguing us today which is responsible for so many deaths due to seeds of hatred sown amongst devotees of different religions. yet Religion is absolutely necessary. Why? Simply because if you do not have religion, you do not have a concept of good and bad, no concept of a salvation of life awaiting you in future. If there is no salvation awaiting you, then why bother leading a good life, you may as well enjoy your present circumstances coz who knows where life ends. I suspect a lot of atheists believe in this. I for one believe totally in religion and spirituality with one prominent reason being that I would like to think that life goes on beyond the grave and that there is a point to my entire existence.

so salvation is the ultimate goal. What about different stages in life.? We start off wanting a good education so priority becomes a good score in examinations, than targeting a good college , a choice of the right profession and then a rewarding career in the company of your choice. This is probably the life cycle of goals set by the average (fe)male.

Similar goals are set up for emotions and love. You tend to work towards a good marraige, a stable relationship, a good foundation for good family life, taking care of the elders etc.. etc...

Aspirational goals like building/owning your own house or more valuables, wanting to attain popularity and stardom, pursuing a serious hobby etc.. etc..

My approach towards stuff so far was to always break it down into smaller teeny weeny parts. Studying meant achieving a certain target of study material to be finished within a time frame of mins, hours, or days. I used to dream about the times when I would be able to ride a bike to college or drive a vehicle for the first time, or my first overnight with friends. Each of these things when achieved gave me a tremendous amount of satisfaction and motivation to drive further. For once you attain a certain target, there is no looking back, its a drive to go higher and beat it, and this constant self competion helps in achieving ultimate goals. So stuff like achieving an 80% target in Xth, getting a good PCM score to get into engineering, getting admission into MBA school all become simpler along with smaller achievements like just staying up all night, riding safely for long distances in not the most sober of conditions etc.. etc...

I guess the central message essentialy is taking each day at a time, setting up all that you want to achieve from it and then experiencing tremendous satisfaction and motivation at successful completion of the task . and ultimately compiling all your days together to achieve that ultimate goal of nirvana..............................
